Former town centre Aldi could become new 24-hour supermarket

The Aldi store on Gresley Road, Keighley, closed earlier this year when the supermarket chain re-located to a much larger, purpose built unit on the former Alexandra Mills site.

Now a planning application has been submitted to Bradford Council for the reopening of the empty unit as a new supermarket.

The plans have been submitted by Worldwide Foods, a supermarket chain with branches on Leeds Road in Bradford, Leeds, Manchester, and Oldham.

A supermarket has been operating on the site since 1992, and when the plans were approved, no limits on opening times were imposed on the unit.

The new application says: “Our client wishes to operate on a 24-hour basis and there are no conditions regarding the opening hours on any of the previous applications.”

A decision on the application is expected next month.
