Imran Khan, owner of IK School of Fine Tailoring on Westgate, launched the Duke of Gloucester Library on Monday (Jul 27).
Named after the royal who opened the shop last year, the space has been created to encourage youngsters to pick up books.
Mr Khan said: “The library is open to absolutely everyone.
“I want to give something back to the local community.
“I’m hoping it might help improve reading levels.
Getting people to read, especially young people, can be difficult.”
The tailor, who has dyslexia, believes that any form of engagement with books is valuable.
He said: “My condition makes it so I don’t read much.
“But even just looking at pictures can be a great way to engage your mind.”
The library was opened on Monday with a visit by Chief Sir John Robbins and Imran Hussain MP.
Since then, Mr Khan said the library has received a “positive reception”.
He said: “Everyone who has visited has said it’s a nice, safe place to be.
“So far, it seems to be putting a smile on people’s faces.”
